This concept is beautifully depicted by the mythical Sankofa bird, which flies forward while looking backward, with an egg (symbolizing the future) in its mouth.
In the Legacy Weaver's Lab, we embody the spirit of Sankofa in our journey to explore our past. We reach back through the annals of history, through the rich tapestry of African American literature, art, and culture, to retrieve what was lost, forgotten, or unacknowledged. We do this not to dwell in the past but to understand and harness its power for our future.
